Last year, I reviewed Shloer Rosé (here) and declared it the ultimate alcohol-free festive drink for pregnant or breastfeeding mums. I still agree wholeheartedly with what I wrote in that review but I have to admit, I've also started seeing Shloer in a whole new light. The lovely people at Shloer sent me some of their other flavours to sample, along with some tasty recipes (posted here) designed to be accompanied by a lovely glass of chilled Shloer. While I love the fresh, sweet, slightly sharp taste of Shloer to drink, I have to admit I wasn't sure how well it would work with food but I was amazed. It does work really well and my tastebuds were almost convinced they were drinking wine, minus the acidity and of course the alcohol.
I started off with a bottle of White Grape and loved the refreshingly sweet but sharp flavour. This one particularly reminded me of a lovely glass of chilled white wine, my cheeky tipple of choice after a long day at work. Now, I've always assumed it's the alcohol in the wine that makes me relax into the weekend on a Friday night but I get the same sensation with a glass of White Grape Shloer so maybe it's something in the grapes ? Or maybe it's just a placebo effect and my brain thinks I'm drinking wine ! Whatever the reason, I'm more than happy to swap a glass of wine for a glass of Shloer !
I love the fact that you can get out the posh glasses and share a glass of fizz with the kids who feel very important and special. It's the perfect way of turning a traditional Sunday roast into a real special occasion with very little effort. I'll definitely be getting some bottles for the Christmas dinner table for the kids and probably for myself too, to cut down on some of the over-indulgence ! The posh glass bottles look the business too.
We also sampled Shloer White Grape, Raspberry & Cranberry and I absolutely love it, as did the kids. The raspberry gives it a lovely sweet fruity flavour but the cranberry adds a slight tang that really complements and almost enhances the sweet flavour. All Shloer flavours contain no preservatives, artificial colours, sweeteners or flavourings so you know that all the sweetness is coming naturally from the fruit.
We also tried Shloer White Grape & Elderflower which initially tastes very similar to the classic White Grape flavour, then the delicate unmistakable flavour of Elderflower comes through. It's beautifully refreshing as a drink although I prefer this one on its own because I find that the Elderflower tends to be drowned out by the food you're eating.
100ml of Shloer provides 45 calories which is more than a glass of water but less than if you stick with white wine - and at least you'll have no hangover the next day !!
If you've yet to discover the delicious, refreshing taste of Shloer, keep your eyes peeled because you should have the chance to win some right here very soon !
