It's been a crazy few weeks - after a fortnight in Morocco, we headed down to Brittany to see the in laws' for a week and are just about to go to see Madhouse Nanny & Grandad now for the final week of our travels. In between each of our trips, we have had a one night stopover at home so we've been having lots of Old Mother Hubbard moments - the fridge is totally bare and there's no fresh produce whatsoever for us to eat !
We've therefore been eating our way through the lovely selection of Tideford Organics products that we received to review last month - they've been an absolute godsend, providing healthy meals straight from the freezer.
The first of the soups that we tried was Tideford's Organic Spicy Butternut Squash Soup. The description on the website says : "The perfect combination for winter, Butternut Squash and Sweet Potato, bursting with vitamins, this is a truly heavenly soup with gentle warm spices including cumin and ginger, you must try this one!"
Well, it does have a beautiful flavour and is perfectly seasoned so it's a lovely warming soup for the colder months. I did find it a bit runny though and would have preferred some larger chunks of vegetable in there to make it feel more satisfying. I added some crusty bread though and it was the perfect light supper.
We'd frozen the pot of soup and removed it from the freezer a couple of hours before eating it, finishing off the defrosting process in the pan by heating it gently. This worked perfectly so it's a great standby to keep in the freezer for when you need something last minute.
The soups are available in two sizes - 600g or 300g. We had the 600g size which was perfect for two servings. 100g of soup provides 36 calories, 5.6g of carbs (of which 2.4g sugars), 0.9g of fat (of which 0.1g saturates) and 1.1g of fibre. Much better than the frozen pizza option that was our only other choice !
star rating : 4/5
RRP : £1.89 for 300g, £2.89 for 600g
