Mars Hot Chocolate Pouches review

There were oohs and aahs of appreciation when this selection of hot chocolate pouches arrived at The Madhouse ! They instantly appealed to us on a number of levels - firstly, the vibrantly coloured packaging looks great, secondly we instantly recognised several of our favourite chocolate brands and thirdly, they've been designed to let you make it just the way you like it - drink it cold, drink it hot, add milk, add water or choose to include chocolate pieces. I think they have all bases covered !

The only difficult thing was deciding which one to try first ! We had the choice of MARS hot or cold, GALAXY hot or cold, MILKY WAY MAGIC STARS with chocolate pieces, GALAXY RIPPLE with chocolate pieces, GALAXY CARAMEL add milk or water and MALTESERS add milk or water.

Pierre chose Maltesers and as soon as we opened the pouch, we could smell a lovely chocolatey Maltesers aroma. Hmmm ! We used the recommended 4 teaspoons of powder and added hot milk. It made a lovely frothy, rich hot chocolate with a recognisable malty Maltesers flavour.

As we'd received some mini marshmallows from Cake Angels in a selection of baking goodies to review, the kids wanted to add these to the hot chocolate.

Pierre added a handful of marshmallows and two straws !

Sophie opted for the Galaxy Caramel which we made with hot milk and, again, she added marshmallows. This also has a lovely sweet flavour and got a thumbs up from Sophie.

I decided to try a cold one and opted for Mars. It produces a lovely chocolatey milk that isn't at all powdery - it mixed in really quickly, but you do need to drink it quite fast or the powder does accumulate at the bottom. This is a really refreshing drink that would be perfect for the summer in place of fizzy drinks.

They all come in treat-size seven-serving pouches, which we thought was the ideal size because you can get through each pack quite quickly and work your way through the whole range. Each serving (without added extras like chocolate pieces or marshmallows) contains about 100 calories with water or 200-250 calories with milk.

  2. I've been reading for a while and I only just realised that you live in France! Duh! How do you get these things sent to France, and the competitions and freebies? Do your children speak French primarily? Sorry to be nosy! I love French culture. :)

    1. I still have a UK address for deliveries :) The Madhouse kids are all totally bilingual, although French is their stronger language as they've lived here all their lives. They love all things UK/London/1D related though so their rooms are full of Union Jacks and other Brit-references ! I speak to them in English all the time. I do have a French version of the blog too but it's a much smaller affair (you can click through on the top of my sidebar if you want to practise your French !)

  3. Yhanks for the review. I do love chocolate. Whilst I tend to find that a hot chocolate drink helps settle me to sleep. Great that there is now a great selection to choose from.
