Madhouse diaries : Lake-side !

Bank holiday Monday turned out to be a glorious sunny day so we decided it would be the perfect time to get out and walk off some of the Easter chocolate calories that we've been consuming ! We headed off for a nice stroll around a local lake. We kept glimpsing bluebells in the shady woodland next to the path which reminded me that at school, I used to sing "in and out the dusty bluebells" rather than dusky bluebells !

We ended up in t-shirts and it was as warm as a midsummer's day. I hope the rest of the holidays will be as nice - we're just starting our fortnight off here.

Pierre and Juliette gave in to the irresisitible urge to poke sticks in a muddy puddle - oh well, at least they weren't splashing through it !

We spotted a lone donkey in a field.

And went tracking, following the fluorescent arrows dotted all over the place.

We found a very pretty bridge and while we waited for Juliette to come running back (you can just see her on the bridge), we excitedly discovered lots of tadpoles swimming in this smaller pond.

The little marker posts made an ideal resting spot for Pierre's tired little legs !

We saw some fisherman catching an enormous fish. No idea what sort of fish it was but it was visibly full of eggs.

They weighed it and proudly stated that it weighed 10.7kg - wow, that's a whopper ! The Madhouse kids were very relieved to see that they pulled out the hook and set it free again.

Ooh look at all the daisies - we may have to go to our wild flower meadow this week and see if there are as many as last year.

Just along from the lake, we found a little play area which was the perfect finishing touch.

Look Mum, we're in prison !

When we got home, Pierre planted some sunflowers with Madhouse Daddy. I already know that he is going to be asking me when they'll be growing every single day (because he's already started !).

Here's hoping we'll get lots more lovely sunny days like this one !

  2. Looks like a lovely walk with plenty of interest along the way. Bank Holiday Monday turned out really lovely for us too despite a poor forecast but our walking didn't stretch beyond the farm. I love that bridge, it made me think of the famous Monet painting!
