Pierre is growing up fast and wants to be able to read, write and do homework just like his big sisters, so he was very pleased and very proud to receive Tractor Ted’s Special Easter Edition Activity Book 2 to review. We discovered the first Tractor Ted activity book, along with some other lovely goodies, last year - you can see our review here - but now that he's a "big boy" of 4 & 1/2, I could see that Pierre got a lot more out of this one.
The 32 page book is packed full of brightly coloured farm-themed photos and educational activities for little learners. It starts off with four pages of letters to trace relating to animal sounds.
Then goes on to six full-page photos of differently coloured tractors to trace the names of the colours. Pierre thought it was funny to see a pink tractor !
After all that writing practice, it's time to move on to word association and reading. Pierre loved the baby animal pictures.
The centre pages offer some farm-themed colouring activities.
The final letter tracing activity allows you to review everything that your little learners have already worked on in the book - the numbers from one to ten, the names of the baby animals and the colours.
Pierre loved doing the mazes, which were great fun and a real challenge for him, while practising his fine-motor skills and logic.
And the final activity made Pierre giggle a lot - match the tails to the animals or, as Pierre said, match the bums ! There are also matching pages with words and picture prompts, which are a great way for taking your first steps into learning to read and write.
The Easter-theme isn't just related to the eggs and chicks and other springtime baby animals that pop up in the activities. There are also two recipes, for cheese scones and Easter biscuits.
The book has been designed to tie in with the Foundation Stage level of Early Years learning and I'd say it's spot on. Pierre had a lot of fun but it is also very educational.
The activity book isn't the only new initiative from Tractor Ted though. The National Farmers' Union and Tractor Ted are running a competition to win Tractor Ted's Little Farm Live for a day to encourage young children to think about where our food comes from and to increase their awareness of farming and the countryside. The competition runs until the end of August 2014 and you can download an entry form from www.letstalkfarming.co.uk. Competition leaflets will also be available from the NFU’s Let’s Talk Farming Roadshow and at Tractor Ted Live Event locations, as listed at www.tractorted.co.uk.
Tractor Ted has also launched an online Easter Egg Hunt. The winner will get the Tractor Ted bouncy castle for a day and 20 runners-up will receive a copy of the new Easter Activity Book that I've just reviewed. Open to everyone, all you have to do is find the colour of the number on the egg on 10 different pages of the website. Go to www.tractorted.co.uk/blog to find out more. The Easter Egg hunt finishes at 12pm on Tuesday 22nd April.
And, to finish off, I thought you might like a Tractor Ted activity sheet to keep the kids entertained. Click on the picture to get a bigger version to print. Enjoy !
(The Activity Book 2 is available from March from country stores nationwide and online at www.tractorted.co.uk and coincides with the launch of a new Tractor Ted Farm Design canvas pencil case (£6.99) which has a sturdy zip and follows the style of the ruck sack, water bottle and thermal lunch bag.)
