Globecooking recipe : Fruit Salad with Ginger Sauce (Colombia)

We love fruit salad here at The Madhouse. It's the perfect healthy dessert that the kids can help put together. In my Colombian-themed Kitchen Trotter box, there was a recipe for fruit salad with a ginger twist.

It used three ingredients from the box - panela (solid brown sugar), guava jam and crystallised ginger - but you could use other types of jam and sugar instead.

Fruit Salad with Ginger Sauce

ingredients :

a selection of seasonal fruit of your choice (as it's a Colombian-inspired dish, it would be good to include something tropical like mango, pineapple or papaya)
a squeeze of lime juice
a splash of orange juice
8tbsp guava jam
1tbsp runny honey
1tbsp shaved panela (or brown sugar)
1tbsp chopped crystallised ginger

Put the jam, honey, panela and crystallised ginger in a small saucepan, bring to the boil, constantly stirring, then leave to cool.

Meanwhile, peel/wash the fruit and chop into chunks. I used an orange, a satsuma, a mango, a banana, two pears, a plum, an apple and some grapes.

Put it all into a large bowl and toss in a little orange juice and a squeeze of lime juice. Mix it all up and chill in the fridge for half an hour.

Drizzle over the sauce just before serving - it's very sweet so you only need about 1tbsp per person.

    1. In Turkey, they added oodles of fresh mint which worked well too

  2. Ooh that looks tasty! I love fruit salad but can never be bothered to prep it all!!

    1. The kids always want to do the chopping of the soft stuff, which helps cut down the time !
