Little Pasta Organics Pasta Sauce For Kids review

You can't have missed all the reviews that have been coming through at the moment for the different products that we received in our "free-from" taster box from Ocado. Well, the latest item on the testing hotseat was this jar of Little Pasta Organics Spinach & Broccoli Pasta Sauce For Kids.

Needing a quick dinner for the kids, I added the contents of the jar to some pasta and stirred in some chopped chorizo and grated cheese. I would have added some halved cherry tomatoes too but the Madhouse Mini-testers had already scoffed the whole pack !

The tiny 130g jar looks like baby food and it is indeed suitable for babies aged 9 months +, but the Madhouse Mini-testers are much older than that and they still liked it (even if it would have been a bit bland for them without the added extras). That's because there is no added salt or sugar though.

The manufacturers explain : "Little Pasta Organics' delicious pasta sauces are all made from the finest organic ingredients grown in sunny Italy. Our idea of 'hiding' a variety of vegetables into each sauce by finely chopping and blending them together ensures that your little ones eat up their greens (and reds and yellows!) with no fuss! Our sauces are all gluten free and are also free from any nuts or seeds. Most importantly, they contain no added salt or sugar. Each jar is equivalent to 1 of your 5 a day and is practical and easy to prepare."

The contents of the jar can be heated on the hob or in the microwave (or tossed into cooked pasta, as I did). The ingredients list is refreshingly short and natural - ripe Italian tomato puree (78%), spinach (6%), broccoli (4%), carrots, onions, extra virgin olive oil. It is not only gluten-free but also vegan.

It's quite pricey at £1.79 for 130g but the label says it contains 2-3 servings and I did just about manage to get three bowlfuls out of it  for the Madhouse Mini-testers to enjoy.

star rating : 4/5

RRP : £1.79 for 130g
