A couple of weeks ago, Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom Big Star Fun - the first ever official Ben & Holly app - was released for iPad, iPhone and iPod and the Madhouse Mini-testers were very pleased to be sent through a review code to try it out.
Fans can choose to play and fly as Princess Holly or as Ben Elf riding on Gaston the Ladybird and enjoy the following four magical games:
- Collecting Stars – fly through the air collecting stars whilst avoiding obstacles (Juliette's favourite)
- Throwing Sticks – play fetch with Gaston!
- Hiding – Ben & Holly are hiding in the Elf Tree, catch them before they disappear! (Pierre's favourite)
- Sweeping the leaves – help Ben & Holly clear all the leaves before the time runs out.
I always think the best apps are the ones that offer a selection of mini games because they offer much more variety and keep little players occupied for much longer. The Madhouse Mini-testers always seem to have a particular soft spot for apps featuring their favourite TV cartoon characters too, so this app already had two plus points chalked up before we started really exploring the options.
It also has an extra bonus "game" that Juliette really loves - a sticker book where you can collect stickers won during the different mini games and lay them out on four backgrounds, The Little Castle, Castle Courtyard, Elf Tree Kitchen and Elf School.
Everything in the app, from the graphics to the voices and music, are totally authentic and correspond exactly to the TV series so young players really feel like they have wandered into Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom on a play date ! I asked the Madhouse Mini-testers to give it a mark and they said ten out of five !!

This is another app that I need to review, i am sooo behind with my reviews this month. So far Eddie prefers to play with Peppa pig app, but maybe I should invlove him more and explain better how it works. He loved pulling those figures down in the picture, but he got about 25 ladybirds in one page.
ReplyDeleteWe just got an iPad for my toddler, this is one to keep in mind for the list. There's so many apps available so these reviews are really helpful.
