Jordans recently sent me through their latest addition to the Country Crisp range - Super Berry flavour. We all really like Country Crisp here at The Madhouse - I love the nutty, crunchy texture, especially as it doesn't go soggy in milk, and definitely prefer the kids eating that to sugar-packed chocolatey kid-oriented options - so I was keen to see what we'd think of the new addition.
You get the classic Country Crisp clusters of wholegrain cereals (bran flakes and oat flakes) with a hint of hazelnut and coconut but you also get a very generous sprinkling of freeze-dried blackcurrants, blueberries and cranberries. When I poured out the first bowl (that you can see above), I thought to myself "oops, there go all the berries then" and quite expected the rest of the box to be sadly lacking in super berries. I needn't have worried though, they're evenly distributed throughout the box and I was impressed at how many there are. They add a lovely tartness to offset the creamy oats and nuts and there's certainly no need to add any sugar - even Juliette didn't ask if she could sprinkle sugar over the top.
A 45g serving with 100ml semi-skimmed milk contains 248 calories, 7.2g of protein and 2.8g of fibre. On the downside, it also contains 34.2g of carbs (of which 15.1g sugar - that's why they don't need extra sweetening then, but hopefully some of that comes from the berries) and 8.5g of fat (of which 3.2g saturated).
They make a lovely breakfast or light supper - the kids have even been eating them as an after-school snack straight from the pack ! - and the cranberries give it a lovely festive twist.
