Provamel recently got in touch to ask if we'd like to try out their brand new sugar-free, plant-based alternative to yogurt (the first ever zero-sugar, organic plant-based alternative to yogurt in fact). We always love trying out new foodie products so I said that we'd love to give it a go. We received two pots - the zero sugar and the slightly sweetened one.
As Provamel explain : "Perfect for those looking for deliciously healthy options completely free from sugar, Provamel’s new plain, zero-sugar flavour will be available in 500g, 4x125g and 750ml ‘breakfast’ varieties – making it the ideal partner to breakfast, snack-times, home baking and cooking, or as an after dinner indulgence, minus the guilt.
With a silky, smooth taste – and new-look packaging to boot – it will be joined by a plain 500g soya alternative to yogurt lightly sweetened with a splash of organic agave syrup, meaning there’s something for those with more of a sweet tooth too."
It has a lovely smooth, creamy texture and Sophie has been eating the slightly sweetened one on top of granola or with fruit or jam swirled into it.
I decided to try the zero sugar one in cooking, first of all in a Jordanian dish called Mansaf then in a Mozzarella, Leek & Bacon Quiche, both of which worked really well. (Click through if you want the recipes.)
It's a great alternative to crème fraîche or Greek yogurt in cooking, whether you need a dairy-free option or if you're just looking for a healthy choice.
It thickens up nicely to make a creamy but low fat sauce which would be perfect as the base for a pasta dish like carbonara or in lasagne or cauliflower cheese type dishes.
The Provamel range is 100% plant-based, organic and dairy-free and includes soya and other plant-based alternatives to milk, yogurts, shakes, desserts, cream and custard. Provamel is exclusively available in health food stores and Holland & Barrett.
