Picture book review : Are The Dinosaurs Dead, Dad? - Julie Middleton

We've been reviewing lots of picture books here at The Madhouse lately, much to the Mini-testers' delight ! The latest offering was Are The Dinosaurs Dead, Dad? by Julie Middleton.

This one had us all giggling (again !) with the unexpected cheeky twist at the end. Dad takes little Dave to the museum to show him the dinosaurs and replies to all his nervous "Are the dinosaurs dead, Dad?" queries with a breezy "Yes, of course they are" ... until they get chased out of the museum by one !

Pierre loved looking at all the dinosaurs in the pictures with their mischievous expressions and Juliette loved trying to work out how to pronounce their names. The tongue-in-cheek "Dad doesn't always know best" message appealed to them both too, strangely enough !

It's a fun book to share, but maybe not one to read just before bed, if you don't want particularly imaginative little readers to have nightmares about dinosaurs and monsters coming to life in the night, especially as - after reading the book - you won't be able to tell them it's just their imagination any more !

  2. My youngest son would love this, he is crazy about dinosaurs and absolutely loves books, after I finish reading him a book at bedtime he insists on holding onto it and I have to prise it out of his hands once he is asleep!
