Hayman’s Gin Gift Pack review

It always makes me smile to see that, if I log on to twitter around 6pm, there are an awful lot of tweets going by on my timeline cheekily asking if it's #wineoclock or #ginoclock yet. One of my female friends also frequently likes to say that when things get tough, you just have to gin and bear it !

Well, although I'm rather partial to the odd gin and tonic myself, I have to admit that when an email landed in my inbox from Hayman's, I was really surprised to see just how many different types of gin exist. I fired off a quick email in reply and hey presto, I was in possession of a rather fab Hayman’s Gin Gift Pack, which is perfect for tasting and comparing the different varieties.

The set contains four 5cl miniatures of different styles of Gin: Hayman’s London Dry Gin, Hayman’s Sloe Gin, Hayman’s Old Tom Gin and Hayman’s 1820 Gin Liqueur. This premium collection of Hayman’s award winning Gins comes stylishly packaged with detailed, easy to follow recipes for any budding gin and cocktail enthusiast.

Here are some of Hayman's serving suggestions:

Hayman’s London Dry Gin is a classic style of London Dry Gin. Distilled from 10 botanicals handpicked from around the world, it is the careful and consistent balance of juniper, coriander, orange and lemon peel that creates a fresh, crisp and elegant flavour.

Pour two measures in a glass, fill with ice, top with tonic and a slice of lime for an unbeatable G&T.

Hayman’s Sloe Gin is a traditional English Liqueur made to a long standing family recipe previously only available for private use. Wild English grown sloe berries are gently steeped for several months with Hayman’s Gin before being blended with natural sugar to create Hayman’s Sloe Gin.

The rich ruby red liqueur is perfect on its own with ice, or pour a measure in a champagne flute and top up with bubbles for the perfect treat for your beloved mum.

Hayman’s Old Tom Gin is a botanically intensive and delicately sweetened style of Gin. This style was the quintessential English Gin of the late 19th Century when Old Tom Gin was specified in numerous classic Gin cocktails such as the Martinez, Tom Collins and Ramos Gin Fizz.

Try it in a Gin Rickey – squeeze half a fresh lime into a glass and add the peel.  Fill with ice and pour 2 measures of Hayman’s Old Tom, top up with soda water and stir.

Hayman’s 1820 Gin Liqueur, the only gin Liqueur to exist in the world, Hayman’s 1820 combines the refreshing character of Gin with the sweetness of a Liqueur.

Delicious sipped over ice, with a measure of pink grapefruit or a simple squeeze of fresh lime.

The Hayman family know a lot about Gin, the original company of Hayman Distillers dates back to 1863 when James Burrough, the great Grandfather of the current Chairman, Christopher Hayman created the world renowned Beefeater Gin. Two centuries later The Hayman family now proudly distil their range of premium Gins under their family name and have created this Hayman’s Gin Gift Pack to perfectly show case their hard work!

I tried the Sloe Gin with champagne and thought it made a lovely change from the usual kirs that most French families offer, using either blackberry or blackcurrant liqueur and bubbles. I also really liked the Gin Liqueur which is totally different to anything I've ever tasted before. We also kept giggling (no doubt helped by all the gin tasting !) at the name Gin Rickey, pronouncing it à la Bianca from EastEnders !

If your mum is a gin fan, this would make a lovely gift for mother's day.Or if you're a mum yourself, you might like to buy one for yourself too !
