You'd better be good, I'm telling you why ... Santa Claus came to town today, on a proper sleigh pulled by real reindeer who were led by genuine Laplanders - I know the reindeer come from the zoo we visited earlier in the week, but Goodness knows where they found the Laplanders !
They were welcomed in music with a very festive looking brass band playing Christmas tunes.
Santa delighted the kids by handing out sweets and gingerbread.
It's not often that you can say you've stroked Santa's reindeer !
As the bells chimed out five o'clock, all eyes turned to the clock tower.
Suddenly the choir started to sing "Petit Papa Noël"and there was a collective intake of breath as some big black boots, followed by some rather lovely fur-trimmed, red velvet trousers, appeared from the belfry. It's always a really magical moment so I captured it on video.
Watching Santa abseiling down the town's clocktower/belfry is a traditional festive event in the North of France but it seemed a bit poignant this year as there have been two fatal accidents this week with "Santas" falling to their death - imagine trying to explain that to the kids ! Luckily our Santa made it to the ground in one piece though !
Fab event. And how tragic about the death of Santas, that must have been so scary for everyone watching
ReplyDeleteIt must have been horrific - and you'd probably think it was part of the show to start with :(
DeleteThat is brilliant! So sad about santa dying in other places though
