How To Swaddle Your Baby

Swaddling is one of those things that our grandmothers talked about but that had gone out of fashion for several generations before making a huge comeback. If you're interested in giving it a go, here's a simple step-by-step guide on what to do from Aden + Anais.

Lay the swaddle in a diamond shape and fold the top corner down to form a
triangle. Place your baby in the center of the folded area with their head just above
the fold of the swaddle. Ensure that your baby's shoulders are still below the fold.

Place your baby's right arm slightly bent at the elbow flat against their body.
Take the left side of the swaddle and bring it across your baby's chest.
Ensure their arm is securely under the fabric. Tuck the edge of the swaddle
under their body to ensure a secure swaddle.

Fold the bottom of the swaddle up & over your baby's feet.

Finally, place your baby's left arm slightly bent at the elbow against their
body, take the right side of the swaddle & bring it across your baby's chest
Tuck the excess fabric underneath your baby to secure the swaddle.

  1. I remember my Mother In Law doing this to my eldest, I can tell you he wasn't impressed at not being able to move & kicked up a right stink until I'd free him, but yet my other son loved being swaddled.
Strange how all the kids are different.

  2. We weren't shown how to swaddle our little one until he was admitted into hospital again at about 3 months . We wish we'd known prior to this as it worked a treat! An amazing way to help baby drift off to sleep. Just gotta be careful to ensure they don't get too accustomed to it :)

  3. I wish I'd been shown how to swaddle correctly, great post and I will refer my mummy friends to this as needed!
