I told you about Annoying Orange just
before Christmas. Imagine a fruity version of Crazy Frog and you've
got a rough idea ! You'll either love it or hate it but either way,
kids and teens are sure to pick up on the irritating catchphrases because they
love to wind up the grown-ups !
We received a selection of Annoying
Orange stocking fillers just before Christmas. There's a wide range
of merchandise available, with everything from T-shirts and posters to toys. We
received a soft toy, a hard plastic collectible, a key ring and a
clip-on – there may have been more in the package but they were instantaneously
seized by the Madhouse Mini-Testers and I had a hard time trying to
get hold of them again to write the review !
They all talk, in a rather brash voice,
coming out with one liners and (probably soon-to-be cult) sayings
that anyone who has been watching them on youtube will no doubt already be familiar with. We'd had a quick watch when I wrote the
original blogpost in December but didn't know much about them apart
from that, but that didn't stop the Madhouse Mini-testers
enthusiastically giggling as they pressed the buttons to make them talk.
The talking toys come with alkaline
button cell batteries already installed, but the bad (or good, if you
find them annoying !) news is that these batteries are
non-replaceable. By the time they run out, I'm sure you'll be sick of
hearing them anyway !
There are LOTS of different toys to
collect. Just from looking at the Talking Kitchen Crew Clip-On box, you
have the choice of Smilin' Orange, Laughing Orange, Nyah Nyah Orange,
Whoa Orange, Pear, Midget Apple, Grandpa Lemon, Marshmallow and
Passion Fruit. Sounds like the ingredients for a great fruit salad ! I've no doubt this will be added to as more videos are
created.
The creators of the characters know
that you'll either love or loathe them. The blurb on the back of the
box says : « He's cute. He's annoying. He's an Orange ! To
some, he's the king of comedy, the prince of puns, the earl of
irritation ! And to others, he's just a royal pain in the behind.
Call him what you like, just don't call him an apple. He hates
that. » Whatever you think, I'm sure you'll be seeing lots more of these little guys around !
