Tesco's Mother's Day Chocolates review

In case it's slipped your mind, it's Mother's Day this Sunday. Don't panic if you're being totally unorganised though - Tesco have a lovely range of Mother's Day gifts that you can throw in your trolley when you do the weekly shop !

They sent us through this box of milk chocolate truffles which come with a bargaintastic £2 price tag, making them the ideal choice for children clutching their pocket money in their sticky mitts looking for a special present for their mum !

The box contains nine chocolates, three of which spell out the word MUM and the rest of which are adorned with pretty white or pink chocolate butterflies.

They look really pretty and they taste very nice too. If I'm perfectly honest, it's pretty run-of-the-mill chocolate - the milk chocolate contains 30% minimum cocoa solids and it reminds me a bit of the chocolate that goes into chocolate baubles for the Christmas tree - but the visual appeal and aww-factor make them really special. The softer truffle centre makes them quite light too. Very nice !

We also received this Tesco Finest* Belgian Chocolate Collection which comes in a clever picture frame box and has a price tag of £5.00

There are three types of chocolate : Dark chocolate with a silky chocolate and Madagascan vanilla torte centre, Milk chocolate with a rich hazelnut praline filling and White chocolate with raspberry filling and a delicate hint of garden mint flavour.

The pretty heart shape is perfect for showing mum how much you love her and you get four of each flavour.

The praline centre is lovely and gooey and has a really nice flavour and texture.

The white chocolate ones have a runnier filling which is also very nice but, I must admit, I would have preferred the raspberry flavour without the mint. I like both flavours but I wasn't totally convinced they worked together. This is purely down to personal taste though and we soon polished off the whole lot !

This is the gift that keeps on giving. Once you've eaten all the chocolates, the box can be turned into a picture frame. It would be a lovely idea to put a photo in the box before giving it to your mum too, to show that you've put in some effort to make it really personal.

If you want something more original than a box of chocolates, Tesco have lots of other mother's day gifts on the shelves. You might like the Tesco Fork, & Trowel Set (£12.00), Gardening Gloves (£6.00) or Garden Planting Set (£8.00). There are also some rather nice wine and chocolate gift sets that are exclusive to Tesco : Gallo Just to say …. 187ml wine and chocolate truffle gift set (£4.00), Jacob’s Creek Semillon Chardonnay 187ml and wine glass gift (£6.00) and Freixenet Rosado Brut Cava 20cl and truffles (£6.00). If you want a more lasting gift, their Practically Perfect range  - Doorstop £8.00, Cushion £3.00 or Print (£4.00) - or the Birdcage Tea for One (£10.00), Mother’s Day Grandma Mug (£2.00), Mother’s Day Mum Mug (£2.00) or Mother’s Day Bear (£6.00) may be more what you're looking for.

Disclosure : We received some chocolates in order to write an honest review.
