I See Me personalised picture book review

When I See Me got in touch and asked if we'd like to review one of their beautiful personalised children's books, I knew Pierre would love it but, as we've reviewed personalised books before, I wasn't really expecting anything mindblowingly different or out-of-the-ordinary.

But then the book arrived and, right from the very first page, I was blown away by just how personalised it is and also how the text really makes the child feel special. This will certainly be a book for Pierre to keep and treasure, probably for the rest of his life, so it's lovely to have the date we received the book, as well as his birth date, on the opening page.

When ordering the book, you are asked to fill in your child's complete name, including the middle name. Throughout the story, the characters go off and collect up all the letters to spell out your child's full name.

It's a fabulous book for young children who are starting to learn to read and recognise letters because each page shows the letter in upper case in the picture and lower case in the name opposite. On top of that, each picture and text introduces a vehicle that starts with that letter and the name of the vehicle is also printed on the page so it's really educational.

The pages showing the name also show the letters in upper and lower case, helping with letter recognition or serving as a model to copy.

Where the book takes personalisation to a new level is in the way that even within the pictures, your child's name pops up in unexpected places, such as on the side of a truck or advertising hoarding.

With your child's name there for all to see in the pictures and the texts, how could he/she not feel totally proud and special ?!

After all that reinforcement of letter recognition and spelling, the learning isn't quite over just yet ! There is also an engaging and informative mini encyclopaedia of "things that go" at the end of the book.

I mentioned that I was really impressed at how far the personalisation is taken, so I couldn't help but smile when I spotted that even the list of other available books features your child's name.

I See Me books promise to celebrate the uniqueness of each child and they have certainly achieved this. They really appeal to me on a number of levels - the cute and vibrantly-coloured illustrations, the enjoyable story, the so-much-fun-you-don't-realise-you're-learning practice of literary skills, the way the whole story spells out your child's name, the name also featuring in the illustrations, the personalised preface page .... If you want a special gift for a child at Christmas (or any other time of year), they are sure to appeal and will be a keepsake to be treasured for many years to come. Don't just take my word for it though - the books have won awards and also have celeb fans, including  Courtney Cox, Brooke Shields and Jessica Alba.
