Snuggling under the covers with Pierre to read a bedtime story is always a great way to round off the day, and it always makes me smile that Juliette (and sometimes even Sophie) comes along to listen too ! We were delighted to receive a copy of a new picture book to review from Sweet Apple Publishers.
The book features a little six-year-old boy who comes up with a variety of dinosaur-themed names for himself dependent on his moods and feelings. Oddsockosaurus, the title of the book, is just one of them - he can also be a Readabookadocus ...
... or a Tellafibasaurus ...
... or a Cheekyodon. The names are all a bit of a mouthful, which makes them fun to read out loud, and the situations are all things that young children can really relate to - trying to cover up the fact that they've eaten an illicit cookie, fighting with their siblings or - one that had Pierre in fits of giggles - putting a pair of pants on their sister's teddy bear !
The illustrations really bring the tale to life and it was a book that had us all smiling and laughing as we compared ourselves to the different dinosaurs, to see which ones most closely resembled us ! It's a fun read but also a useful book for exploring feelings and emotions, especially as it shows that you can sometimes be a bit naughty but still be a nice human being (or, I should say, a Lovelyonychus).
If you like to use bedtime stories as inspiration for crafts or learning projects, it's also great for leading on to the theme of the real dinosaurs, as the names do vaguely resemble real dinosaur names.
