You've probably seen Toby's Travelling Circus on Channel 5's Milkshake, but just in case you haven't, it's the animated story of Toby, a seven year-old boy who is the ringmaster of a travelling circus and fairground. Under the watchful eye of mum Delores and with mischievous monkey Momo at his side, Toby has to make sure he and his friends put on a spectacular show for the audience everywhere they go.
Toby's Travelling Circus has its first ever DVD coming out on 28th October and we were very pleased to receive a copy to review.
Pierre instantly loved the exciting circus setting with magic tricks, acrobatics, feats of strength, juggling and gymnastics. The supporting cast of characters are fun and entertaining, giving a real feel for life at the circus - Pierre loves Thor the strongman, Li and Ling the acrobats, clowns Clara and Freddo and one-man band Jango, as well as the three dodgems Bish, Bash and Bosh.
The storylines also teach some valuable life lessons to little viewers, such as believing in themselves, persevering even when they're nervous and being brave to see things through and feel the thrill of success. When things go wrong and obstacles get in their way, Toby and his friends have to improvise and find ways around them – because in the circus, the show must go on. The programme encourages children to perform and have fun, as well as teaching them the values of teamwork and practice.
The DVD has a total runtime of an hour and contains six episodes :
1. Dolores Flies Again
When trapeze artist Ling has an accident with the Dodgems, Toby has to find a replacement. Could it be Freddo, or even Toby's mum Dolores?!
2. Banana Drama
Someone's been stealing Dolores' banoffee pies! Will the culprit be discovered and what will happen if they are?
3. Tin Whistle
Jango needs help to hold a tune. Toby on tin whistle and Thor on improvised drums come to the rescue!
4. Snow Baby
Dolores' sister Dolly is visiting with her husband Dennis and baby Diddums for Christmas. Toby, Momo and Thor all help out with babysitting, even during the show!
5. If the Boot Fits
Someone steps in wet paint and walks over Ling's new poster, ruining it. A chase occurs to find the culprit.
6. Balloons
Too busy blowing up balloons to play hide and seek, Toby gives Momo a balloon that Momo names Bob, causing a lot of confusion in the circus!
Toby’s Travelling Circus is aimed at children aged three to six years old. The DVD comes with a colouring poster, as well as a secret game - looking for the secret hearts located in each episode.
