#Schwartz2in1 “What's for Dinner Tonight?” Challenge

BritMums recently invited their members to join in with a “What's for Dinner Tonight?” Challenge. They sent through two products from the Schwartz 2 in 1 range - Mediterranean Chicken Pasta + Cheesy Crumb Topping and Garlic & Thyme Roast Chicken + Crispy Roast Potatoes.

Both recipes sound ideal for a fuss-free, simple meal that the whole family will enjoy. They also tie in nicely with Schwartz's slogan of "Add a little, change a lot". These are both recipes that I'd be likely to serve up at The Madhouse so I was keen to see how they would turn out with the addition of the seasoning mixes.

Well, I've been meaning to try the roast chicken one for a couple of weeks now but, as the weather has suddenly picked up, we've been having a Sunday barbecue in place of our usual roast dinner. Not that I'm complaining - a sunny day and Madhouse Daddy doing the cooking sounds perfect to me !

I decided to do a midweek roast instead but, when I went to defrost the chicken, there wasn't one. There was some pork though so I decided to try that out instead.

While they're in season, we've swapped over to "baby potatoes" as the kids like to call them so I didn't follow the instructions to the letter for the Crispy Roast Potatoes part. You're supposed to peel the potatoes, cut them into chunks and parboil them, before adding the coating and cooking them in a pan separate to the meat. I drizzled them in oil, added the seasoning then put them in the pan under them meat so they didn't get such a crispy coating as you would get if you followed the instructions.

For the second sachet, I mixed the roast chicken seasoning with some oil and rubbed it all over the pork. I didn't put foil on top as recommended because I wanted the pork to get a bit crispy.

A couple of hours later, ta-da - we were ready to tuck in. As someone who uses a lot of herbs and spices in cooking already, I didn't really notice a huge amount of difference compared to our usual Sunday roast, to be honest, although the blend of herbs was delicious and really gave the meat a lift. For someone who doesn't have a huge spice rack in the kitchen or who wouldn't know where to start experimenting with combinations of herbs and spices, these sachets would be a great way of finding your feet though.

  1. I think the baby potatoes look really good, and I love the sight of that roast. I wouldn't have thought of using it with the pork, you clever girl!
