Jungle Speed review

When we received Jungle Speed to review, it was a game I had vaguely heard of but I didn't have any idea of what it actually entailed. I called over Pierre and Juliette who squealed "wow, coooool !", grabbed it and instantly started playing ! Apparently it's one of the games they play and love in their after-school club. As you can play with 2-10 players, I'm sure they have some pretty manic games with their friends !

Time for me to get up to (jungle) speed ! Inside the box, you get a pack of cards, a totem and a funky red carry bag for packing everything away in (making it the perfect travel game). It's a bit like a cross between Snap and Uno with the totem thrown in for good measure ! Each of the cards has symbols on it and as each player turns over their cards, you must grab the totem when you see a matching pair. If you're quickest, you can give your cards to the other player. Careful though, as some cards look very similar but not identical and if you get it wrong, you have to take everyone's cards ! The action cards, such as "colour match", "shape match", "everyone turning over their cards" or "grab the totem pole" make it all even more exciting and fast-paced.

Once you've understood the rules, it's really quick and simple to set up - you just need a table or even the upturned box to lay the card piles and the totem on. Players of all ages can join in - in fact, as they have been playing for longer than me, both Pierre and Juliette totally thrash me every time we play, much to their delight !

As you can see, there is some serious concentration going on here ... followed by lots of squeals and laughter ! As its name suggests, it is very fast and furious so it's ideal if you want some quality time with the kids but time is short. It's great to find a game that is as much fun for the adults as for the children too.

  1. Is it just me or maybe pure laziness, but i always end up playing games i now well?! Trying to get my head round new rules takes too much concentration these days. Although i've three babies under 4 so maybe that's my excuse!

    1. I know what you mean - I don't mind if they're simple to pick up but some do seem unnecessarily complicated !

  2. Oh I haven't seen this one before - looks like they are enjoying it #triedtested
