Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Power Sound FX & Ninja Combat Gear review

Having seen how much fun Pierre had with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pop-Up pizza playset at Christmas, I was really pleased to be offered the chance to review some more toys featuring the "heroes in a half shell". Sure enough, when the postie dropped off a Powersound FX Turtles Figure and a Turtles Ninja Combat Gear Set, there were big smiles all round.

The Powersound Figures are very cool because they talk (or rather shout !) when you move their arms so you can act out some very realistic battles with them. Each figure stands 5.5 inches tall, which is the perfect size for little fingers to manipulate, and features a patented wire coil activation system in the arms and legs that triggers heroic battle phrases. The official blurb says : "Simply pull back and hold the activation limb to hear reverberated phrases such as 'I'm invincible!' and 'Hiiiiiiii-yaa!' " (That sounds more like Miss Piggy than a Turtle !). Pierre was delighted to discover (all by himself) that by holding the arm for a long time, the turtle goes wild and keeps shouting ! As well as all four turtles, you can get a Powersound Shredder to complete the collection. Each figure is sold separately and costs £14.99.

The second product was the Michelangelo Ninja Combat Gear pack which is great for dressing up and acting out TMNT adventures. It includes a bandana, which Pierre loved, even if the eye holes seemed slightly too widely spaced for a 4-year-old's head, as well as Michaelangelo's signature weapons - a nunchuck (that confused Pierre and Juliette who thought that a nunchuck was just a Wii accessory, not a martial arts weapon !) and two throwing stars.

I was a bit concerned that Pierre would go on a desruction derby, smacking things and/or dogs and people with the nunchuck (!), but he actually preferred using it like a dog's pull toy, taking visiting Madhouse Auntie Em all around the front room hanging on the end !

You can get a Ninja Combat Gear pack for each of the four turtles. Raphael's contains a red bandana and two sais (like daggers), Leonardo's has a blue bandana, a sword and two throwing stars and Donatello's has a purple bandana, a Bo Staff and two throwing stars. Each kit costs £14.99.

Whether your child's favourite turtle is Leo, Donnie, Raph or Mikey, they're bound to have loads of fun with the TMNT toys. Pierre is certainly a happy bunny, er turtle.
