Sunday weigh-in : 20 miles !

This week, we got into geocaching in a big way. As it's been the school holidays for the past fortnight, we've been out most days, having loads of fun, searching out hidden caches and discovering some great new places that we'd never been to before. Most of the caches aren't too far apart - many are only a couple of hundred metres apart but when you add them all together (and everyone gets so excited that you always want to do just one more !), you can cover some serious mileage !

Without going out of our way to walk for exercise, here's what we covered this week (according to my pedometer) :

Monday - urban geocaching in Fort Mardyck and a trip to the zoo : 3 caches found, 9.5km walked, calories burned 456

Tuesday - geocaching at Goat Park in Coudekerque : 2 caches found, 9.7km walked, calories burned 472

Thursday - geocaching on the Belgian border at Adinkerque : 15 caches found, 4.5km walked (9000 steps), 235 calories burned

Friday - geocaching in the dunes (all that running up and down sand dunes was a serious workout for our legs !) : 9 caches found, 7.2km walked (14,455 steps), 378 calories burned

Saturday - geocacing at the Horse Farm in Gravelines : 6 caches found, 4.9km walked (9876 steps), 258 calories burned

That's a grand total of 35.8km (that's 22.2 miles) walked this week - Pierre went in the pushchair for parts of the first two days but he walked the rest which I was very impressed with ! - and 1799 calories burned off. That's just for the geocaching too, I don't wear the pedometer unless we're going out for a long walk so there are all the usual day-to-day steps on top of that too. Add that to the fact that I have been eating lots of soup and salads this week and I should see a significant loss this week. But, as Sandra from Thinking Slimmer pointed out last night, "remember muscle is heavier than fat lb for lb though and most scales don't reflect that". Whatever the scales say, I know I've had a fab week and above all, it's been great fun.

Well, the verdict this morning is ... a 200g gain - aaaggghhh ! I'm not even thinking about it - I know this week has been great, whatever the scales say.

Positives of the week

  1. What a fantastic amount of walking, well done! I wouldn't worry about what the scales say right now with your increased activity, that is the main thing.
