Be Sun Safe And Enjoy The Summer - Prevent Skin Cancer Now!

NHS Choices and talkhealth have teamed up with patient support charities Skcin and Factor 50 to present an 'Online Clinic on Skin Cancer and Sun Safety' opening on 16 May 2012 and continuing through June and July.

The clinic will be hosted on all talkhealth sites, www.talkhealthpartnership.com, with leading experts on hand throughout the whole of the week to answer your questions. You will be able to communicate directly with the experts who include Dr Andrew Wright, Dr Jonathan Bowling, Clinical Nurse specialist Saskia Reeken and Speciality Nurse Deborah Mills.

Skin cancer rates are rising faster than any other cancer. Malignant melanoma is the most deadly form of skin cancer and each year over 10,400 people will be diagnosed with it. Once skin cancer was a condition that generally affected the over 50's now the trend it changing and many 30-something's are being diagnosed at an alarming rate.

It's not all bad news though. The good news is that many skin cancers can be prevented by adopting a sensible skin care regime when in the sun. Applying a good quality sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, wearing sun protective clothing including a hat and sunglasses and staying out of the sun between 11am and 3pm will all help to prevent skin cancer.

If you aren't sure how to stay safe in the sun or want more tips on how to prevent skin cancer, maybe you have a mole and are concerned it could be cancer why not ask an expert in the online clinic?

  1. This sounds like a good idea, people don't realise how dangerous sunbathing can be and I can't believe we still have people using sunbeds, it's just not worth it, either be pale or use a good fake tan!
