You've probably noticed that we've been reviewing loads of fabulous new kids' books here at The Madhouse recently, the latest of which was Time for Tea Polly Wally. Juliette was instantly attracted to the brightly coloured picture on the cover and loved the artwork for the bird, saying that it is a painting style that she could try out herself the next time we do arts and crafts. Before we even turned to the first page, this book had therefore already got a plus point next to its name !
The story is simple but appealing. Polly Wally is hungry but can't decide what to eat. Her animal friends try to help her out by suggesting all their favourite foods but every time she tries them, they say "Yum" but she cries "Yuck!" which had Pierre giggling.
He also loved the final page which has a number of flaps for you to lift up to discover creepy crawlies that Polly Wally's mum has brought home for her to eat. Which makes all the other animals say "Yuck" !
It's a fun story to read with simple but appealing colourful pictures that young readers will like to look at. The unexpected flaps at the end are an extra source of delight.
