Colman's Season & Steam Mediterranean Vegetables review

I've used - and reviewed - a lot of season and bake-type bags for meat and fish but, when I received a selection of sachets from Colman's Season & Steam range, I was surprised to see that they are special bags designed to be used in the microwave rather than the normal oven. Interesting !

The first one that I tried was the Mediterranean Vegetables mix, which needs to be added to 150g courgettes, 130g tomatoes and 120g yellow pepper. I actually weighed the vegetables to see how much that equated to (but from now on would just guestimate it) and it was one very large courgette, 3 tomatoes and 1 yellow pepper.

Chop the vegetables, pop them into the bag, add the seasoning and shake to make sure they're all evenly covered, then put it on a plate and zap it in the microwave for 5 and a half minutes on 900W or 7 minutes on 700W.

Leave it to stand for 1 minute before opening the bag and you have deliciously seasoned tooth-tender vegetables ready to accompany your meal. I served ours with some chicken thighs, cooked in another bag in the main oven using Maggi So Juicy Chicken with Mixed Herbs and the two went really nicely together.

I'd never thought about having season and bake bags to use in the microwave but I was very impressed, especially as it makes it so much quicker and easier to get a healthy accompaniment for your meal when you're in a rush.
