Warner Brothers recently sent us through a brand new Scooby-Doo DVD to review. We were excited to learn that this is a full-length animated movie that the whole family could watch together. I have to admit, I was expecting a U-rating so I was surprised to see it's a PG - having watched it though, I personally don't find anything that I wouldn't want the Madhouse Mini-testers to watch, although this is down to personal choice as a parent and the sensitivity of your children.
For this movie, the official blurb says : "Scooby and the gang are attending a gigantic comic book convention when a real life comic book villain attacks! Now they have to solve the mystery before the villain ruins the convention and a big comic book movie premier."
As a grown-up, I love the tongue-in-cheek self-deprecation of Warner Brothers in their presentation of the very industry the represent, both in their supporters (the overweight cartoon conference attendees almost bursting out of their inappropriate superhero costumes made me giggle) and also the depiction of classic cartoon heroes being updated and wrecked.
The Madhouse Mini-testers didn't tune into this light-hearted self-mockery though, they just loved the baddies, the silliness and the exciting storyline. It's a classic Scooby movie that any fans of the series, whatever their age, will love.
