Chicken Tonight Bag & Bake British Casserole Mix review

Last week, I headed to the food cupboard looking for inspiration for a quick but healthy meal and decided to try out a Chicken Tonight British Casserole Mix that we'd received to review. The full name is a bit of a mouthful - Chicken Tonight Even Easier British Casserole Chicken Seasoning Mix with Mushrooms and Herbs. Phew ! The suggested ingredients are 500g chicken breast, 2-3 carrots and 1-2 leeks, which was perfect as they were all things I had in the fridge.

I chopped everything up and popped it in the bag, then I was about to throw the seasoning in the bag as usual when I glanced at the instructions (luckily !) and noticed that you need to blend the seasoning mix with water for this one before adding it to the bag.

45 minutes later, I had a healthy dinner to serve up with some mashed potato and Yorkshire puddings (or Iggle Piggle boats, as Pierre calls them!). Everything was nicely cooked but I have to admit, I did find this one a bit bland, compared to the other seasoning mixes in the range that I've tried. A few shakes of smoked paprika, garlic pepper and Cayenne pepper perked it up no end though.

It's great as a low fat option and is much lower in calories than many creamy sauces in jars. You also know exactly what you're adding to your food as there are no hidden nasties in the ingredients list (Cornflour, Maltodextrin, Flavourings, Onion Powder, Tomato Powder, Dried Onion, Salt, Yeast Extract, Ground Paprika, Dried Herbs (Sage, Parsley, Thyme), Sugar, Mushroom Extract Powder, Garlic Powder, Ground Black Pepper). Each 1/4 pack serving contains 30 calories and 0.1g of fat.
