Tree Fu Tom Ultimate Tom poseable figure review

We love Tree Fu Tom here at The Madhouse, partly for the fun stories in the TV episodes that get Pierre (and sometimes Juliette) up and active doing their magic moves, and partly because of all the giggle-filled memories of the totally crazy but fun real life party that we had last year to tie in with a Tree Fu Tom twitter party. (I'm still very proud of my Tree Fu Tom cake and can't believe how well it came out so I might just have to show it off again !)

Needless to say, when we were given the chance to review a poseable Tree Fu Tom toy, we jumped at the chance. He's aimed at boys and girls aged 3+ and he certainly has lots of wow-factor. He has wings that pop out, he lights up, he speaks and he plays music from the show. What's not to like?!

On his belt, there is a button (or a sapstone, if you're a fan of the show) to push which makes him talk. Talking toys are nothing new but I have to admit, I was very impressed at the wide range of phrases that he comes out with - over 30 ! That's great news for parents who - if you're anything like me! - get sick of hearing the same sentences over and over again on a loop on most talking toys. The sentences are great for inspiring your child to play interactive make-believe role play too, which is a real bonus.

Where it gets even more clever is that he will play the music from the TV show but only if you place him in flying position. The button on his chest makes his wings pop out so that he can fly, then you can zoom him around the room. The wings will fall off if you are a bit too rough with him, but they're easy to put back on again.

His Holopax (that's the thing on his wrist) also lights up when you press it. His head, arms and legs can all be moved which is handy if you want to try and make him do his Big World Magic moves. Juliette and Pierre have been playing a kind of Tree Fu Twister game, with one of them putting him into a position and the other trying to imitate it !

This has led to lots of giggles and fun and I've been impressed to see that it appeals to an 8-year-old girl just as much as a 4-year-old boy. This is definitely a toy that will be high on a lot of Christmas wishlists this year ! For everything that it does, I have to say I think the £24.99 RRP is quite reasonable.

star rating : 4.5/5
