I recently received a lovely selection of Cake Angels cake decorating goodies to try out - you may have spotted the gorgeous yellow icing flowers on Madhouse Daddy's birthday cake last week
- and in the package, the Madhouse Mini-testers were delighted to discover this Ice Cream Cone Cupcake Kit.
Inside the box, you get a pack of cake mix, a pack of icing mix, a little sachet of hundreds and thousands and - we were most impressed to discover - some real ice cream cones. I never would have dreamed of using them in the oven because I was sure they would catch fire !
The kit is totally child-friendly, as Pierre demonstrates. You just need to add water to the cake mix then fold it all in with a spatula until well blended.
Use this mixture to half fill the cones then pop them in the oven for 20 minutes. I was stunned to see that this works so we'll definitely have another play with ice cream cones as a base for cupcakes in the future.
Once they've cooled down, mix the icing sugar pack with butter and a little milk, use a piping bag to create an ice cream-like topping and sprinkle with the hundreds and thousands. Can you see Juliette looking on hungrily in the background ?!
The kids thought they were great fun and that they tasted lovely too. I had a tiny taste and thought they were quite sickly myself, but what do I know ?!
It's a really fun, simple kit that the kids will love getting hands on with, even from a very young age.
