New kids' channel POP hits the screens

There's a new kids' TV channel in town ! POP, described as a high energy children’s channel for 4-9 year olds, is the first channel to be added to the Freeview children’s portfolio in eight years, and it is available free-to-air on Sky Digital channel 616, Freeview channel 75 and Freesat Channel 603. We received a preview disc to check out some of the programmes on offer.

Oh No! It's an Alien Invasion - This one features a crazy band of aliens who have invaded Earth and kidnapped all the adults, along with Nate and his Super Wicked Extreme Emergency Team (S.W.E.E.T.) waging a resistance against the zany Brainlings and trying to find their parents. Very loud and manic but the Madhouse kids seemed to like it !

Artzooka - We love Mister Maker and this is basically the American version - lots of fun things to do and make, including several projects upcycling things from the recycling bin !

Eliot Kid - the Madhouse kids already knew this one and are big fans of Eliot and his overactive imagination, who takes the most everyday situations and turns them into Hollywoodesque adventures.

Grojband - Juliette knew that this one had been on Cartoon Network, despite us not having the channel ! It follows Corey and his three best friends on a mission to propel their garage band to international stardom.

Littlest Pet Shop - Juliette squealed when this one came on and loved it. The song is very catchy and I'm sure I'll be humming it all day now ! Any LPS fan will adore the cute cartoon pets.

Finding Stuff Out - This show has to have the most annoying theme tune ever but the show itself is really good, asking questions that viewers have sent in, in this episode relating to skin. Why do we have skin? Why don't humans have scales? Why do we need to use sunscreen? Why do we have freckles? Why does a bruise turn purple? What is a wart? Even as a grown-up, I found it fascinating.

Totally Spies - another well-known Madhouse fave that I also like because of the kick-ass female role models! It's always a bit noisy but Juliette likes it, "because they have cool spy gadgets and they always fall in love with the boys" !

Sally Bollywood - another cartoon that we'd never heard of but that the Madhouse Kids enjoyed. It features Sally, a young Indian girl who lives in the city of Cosmopolis, whose private detective father has inspired her to start her own investigative service, S.B.I. (Sally Bollywood Investigations) from the basement of their home.

Rescuebots - Transformers-fan Pierre loved this one, because he recognised the characters from his toys

It's a great blend of old favourites and brand new, unknown shows that 5-year-old Pierre and 9-year-old Juliette both really liked.
