Giveaway #395 : Win a children’s baking-set & a case of delicious elderflower cordials - closed - winner Samantha Ripley

The elder tree is steeped in folklore and magic. For our ancestors, its blossom was a powerful symbol of the change in the seasons, heralding the arrival of summer. It is said that if you want to see fairies, all you need do is stand under an elder tree on Midsummer’s Eve at the peak of the elderflower season. The Elder Fairies are only visible at this time of year and are most active at dawn or dusk, preferring to keep out of the bright light of day so as not to be seen! Tread lightly and you might just catch a rare glimpse of them, flitting among the Elder trees, sprinkling their yellow fairy dust over the elderflowers, filling the air with their enchanting fragrance - but be careful not to fall asleep, or it is said they will carry you off!

Inspired by a little help from the Elder Fairy and Belvoir’s elderflower cordial, Sophie Conran has conjured up two easy-to-make recipes for elderflower fairy cakes and spell binding wand biscuits which are just perfect for introducing children to the magic of cooking.

It might be believed that the Elder Fairy has played her part in Belvoir Fruit Farms’ success too, sprinkling a little magic dust over the business perhaps. Belvoir was the first UK company to recognise the commercial potential of elderflower cordial, a drink as quintessentially English as vicars’ tea parties and village fetes, and this summer celebrates its 30th anniversary producing the ‘original’ elderflower cordial.

To mark their anniversary and the six week annual elderflower harvest, Belvoir will stage the first ever Elderflower Festival, to be held at Belvoir Cricket Club in Knipton, Lincolnshire, on 13 July. Open to everyone, this fun-filled, family event will also play host to Frances Quinn, BBC Great British Bake-Off Winner, who happens to be a local. She’ll not only do a cookery demo but will judge the cake baking competition too.

In honour of the occasion, Belvoir have provided a lovely prize for one Madhouse Family Reviews reader : a children’s baking-set, along with a case of six delicious elderflower cordials, in total worth £45. Fill in your entries on the Rafflecopter widget below.
