Woolly and Tig toys review

CBeebies show Woolly and Tig, which follows a three-year-old girl, Tig, and her toy spider, Woolly, has found a place in the hearts of pre-schoolers all over the country. The drama explores the feelings that children have when faced with new experiences, such as a first day at nursery school or meeting a man with a beard - uncertainty and anxiety are replaced with fun and laughter when Woolly comes to life. Golden Bear has launched some cute new Woolly toys this year so little ones can have their very own Woolly friend and the Madhouse Mini-testers were over the moon to receive a selection to review.

We received :

a Woolly Soft Toy
a Poseable Talking Woolly
a Jumbo Bedtime Snuggle Woolly
a Woolly Pick 'n' Match Pairs Game

I was slightly surprised to see just how enthusiastic their reception was actually. All three of the Madhouse Mini-testers are scared of spiders so I wasn't sure what they'd make of them, but they absolutely loved them ! The biggest toy has become Pierre's bedtime buddy, although Juliette tries to pinch it and take it off to her own bed whenever he's not looking !

The talking Woolly toy is another huge fave because of the cute sayings that he says. Pierre loves jumping or throwing him up in the air when he says "wheeee!" and the "counting kisses to help you sleep" has turned into an integral part of his bedtime routine now.

The poseable Woolly is actually quite hard to pose - you can just about manage to make him stand up but it's a bit of a balancing act so the Madhouse Mini-testers said it's more fun just to give him cuddles !

The Pick 'n' Match Cards are great. You get 36 cards featuring 18 different feelings with Woolly the spider miming each emotion. As well as using it to play snap and as a pairs memory game, you can also use it as a "let's pretend" game, copying the mimes for the feelings, and also as a reading prompt for beginner readers, so it's a great learning aid for word recognition and exploring feelings.

I'm hoping that the toys will also help the Madhouse Mini-testers get over their fear of spiders. Next time we see one, I'll say "oh look, it's Woolly" !

star rating : 4.5/5

RRP : soft toy £9.99, cards £3.99, jumbo soft toy £19.99
