Scruffy Chops Dog Shampoo review

You may have noticed earlier that I posted my holiday To Do list, with all the things that I always put off until I can't think of any more excuses for not doing them ! Well, top of that list was giving the two Madhouse pooches a makeover. Not only was their fur getting long and matted in places, they were also decidedly whiffy, so enough was enough !

Here's what they looked like before I started. Basically big walking balls of fluff - and you can thank your lucky stars that you haven't got smellyvision !

Here's Vicky with the pink nose. There are eyes under there somewhere !

And her son Didou with a black nose. When their fur gets really long, it's the only way of telling them apart (well, unless you look at their rude bits !).

And here they are afterwards ! Didou really doesn't like me shaving his fur off, but he soon settled down and he'll feel much better now the hot weather seems to be here to stay for a while. After the hair (fur) cut, I decided to give them a bath too, which is where the Scruffy Chops products came in. I tried the Rhubarking Mad rhubarb and custard scented dog shampoo, which smells as lovely as it sounds. I'd use this myself if it existed as a human shampoo or shower gel ! I'd never used a conditioner on the dogs before but, as I'd just been shaving their fur off, I thought they might appreciate a soothing creamy conditioner on their skin. Again, it sounds and looks good enough for humans : Muddy Marvellous natural mineral conditioner with Dead Sea mud and minerals. It's quite a thick cream so it was quite tricky shaking it out of the bottle with a wet dog wriggling and trying to jump out of the bath, but it did seem really soothing and moisturising, once I managed to get it on their skin.

I was surprised to see that pampered pooches are entitled to a range of organic products containing high end ingredients such as Dead Sea minerals, oatmeal, aloe vera, Pro vitamin B5, vitamin E and allergen-free fragrances. The products are lovely - I particularly love the fragrances. We tried Rhubarb & Custrad but the other varieties sound equally delicious - Brown Sugar and Pink Grapefruit. The dogs settled down for a well earned nap, smelling sweetly of gorgeous fragrances that definitely weren't wet dog ! They are expensive though so I don't think I'd use them all the time, but you certainly do get what you pay for.

  1. your dogs are very cute - we have white dogs and they are tricky to keep clean, so I might give this shampoo a try :-)
