Debenhams Winter Style Challenge competition

Debenhams have launched a Winter Style Challenge competition inviting bloggers to put together two looks, one for daytime and one for the ultimate party outfit, each one with a maximum fantasy budget of £250.

Daytime chic needs to be combined with warmth and snuggliness for winter - think thick tights, faux fur, ultrasoft woolies and layers (unless you go for the ultimate Marmite (love it or hate it) fashion accessory of the year, the onesie - I almost did for this challenge but thought it was a bit of a risk !)

Debenhams Winter Style - Day Wear

So here's what I chose : a high-waisted denim skirt (£33.60) from Blue Fish which could be dressed up or down as well as working throughout the year, with strappy sandals and vest tops in summer or with woolly tights  through autumn-winter. For warmth and a splash of colour, a pair of maroon supersoft opaque tights by Jasper Coran (£8.50) combined with some Skechers faux fur-lined boots (£75). I decided to go for snuggly layers and couldn't quite believe the price of this Oasis polo necked top in the sale - a ridiculous £8 (was £18)- topped with a stylish sequin knit, fringed poncho (£14.99). If you need to brave the elements, this khaki patchwork parka from the designer H! by Henry Holland looks ideal (£85 - love that snuggly hood) and I'd finish off the look with a bit of silliness - a google eye beanie hat (£7.50 by red herring) and some furry earmuffs from Lipsy (£7.50) ! I'll spare you the maths - this all comes to a grand total of £240.09 so well within budget.

Right, time to throw out the woolies and go for glam !

Debenhams Winter Style - Partywear

This designer red sequin one shoulder maxi dress (£42.50) from Diamond by Julien Macdonald has real wow-factor with its all over sequins and daring split leg. With something that full of pizazz, I'd need to tone down the accessories a bit so these fairly plain black heels (£50) would be perfect. A white faux fur shrug (£31.50) would keep out the chill and add some wintry Snow Queen chic. On to the accessories - a satin clutch bag (£7.50), diamante collar necklace (£36), bracelet (£15) and earrings (£15). Total price - £197.50, leaving money for the taxi fare home and a tip for the cabbie !
