Ainsley Harriott Premium Soups review

There's always something very exciting about receiving a hamper in the post and we weren't disappointed when we opened up this one. It contained the whole range of Ainsley Harriott's new premium soups, along with some soup bowls, napkins and a fabulous herb-growing kit. We always like soup here at The Madhouse and often make our own, but that tends to be a weekend thing so having some ready-made soups in the cupboard to heat up at a moment's notice is a great idea, saving time but also calories when we need a quick meal after coming in from work.

The complete range comprises six flavours (and we got to try them all - yum !) :
 Mediterranean Red Pepper
Malaysian Lentil
Tuscan Cherry Tomato
Yorkshire Carrot & Rocket
Spanish Chorizo & Paprika
Red Thai Style Chicken

Each tub contains 460g which is supposed to be for two servings but Madhouse Daddy decided that he wanted a whole tub. Having looked at the calorie count, I was happy to follow suit - I opted for the Tuscan Cherry Tomato variety and the whole 460g tub contains 166 calories, 6g of fat (of which 1g saturates), 24g of carbs (of which 15g sugars) and 3g of fibre. You get a really warming, satisfying and filling bowl of goodness that won't break your New Year's resolutions !

The tubs don't need to be kept in the fridge, making them ideal for taking to work to heat up in the microwave. The flavours are perfectly balanced (you can see all the herbs packed in there on the foil lid when you peel it off) and the thick, chunky consistency is lovely. We loved all six flavours - they just need to add one more flavour and you have enough for the whole week ! Madhouse Daddy did say that he'd like to see more meaty options, but I thought it was great to have so many veggie options.

If you're looking for a low-calorie meal that won't make you feel like you're depriving yourself, this is perfect.

star rating : 4.5/5
