Amy's Kitchen Broccoli & Cheddar Bake review

Amy's Kitchen recently sent us through some vouchers to try out some of their products. You may remember we tried one of their soups in a "souper-duper pasta bake" but they also have a range of frozen ready-meals. The first one that we tried was the  Broccoli & Cheddar Bake.

Despite looking all over the pack, we weren't sure if this was supposed to be an individual serving or one to share. Once we got it home and opened up the pack, we decided that it was quite small so it would be ideal as a side serving for two or on its own as a single-serving. It can be microwaved or cooked in the oven - we decided to go for the oven option so it needed 40 minutes to cook from frozen. I do like the convenience of being able to slap something straight in the oven from the freezer after a long day at work.

We served it with a BBQ chicken grill and some cherry tomatoes. It was very nice - not as good as one made from scratch but perfectly acceptable for a frozen ready meal - and I particularly loved the fact that the broccoli stayed slightly crunchy, rather than going mushy. The cheese sauce was slightly bland so I sprinkled some chilli flakes over the top but we were impressed with the dish overall, even without taking into account the fact that it's a gluten-free option.

Each pack provides 430 calories, 16g of protein, 44g of carbs (of which 5.6g sugars), 20g of fat (of which 12g saturates), 2g of fibre and 0.6g of sodium.

If you're like me and like to find out where the different brand names come from, the packaging has a lovely photo of baby Amy and her mum Rachel cooking in the kitchen !

  1. I like the fact its gluten free one of my grand daughter has a strict diet as she's allergic to all sorts of thing so making her food is a night mare, after raising five children that would eat anything & everything it has took some getting used to, but I'm learning bit by bit. It's such a shame she's not able to experience so many taste sensations though, no dairy, has to be wheat & gluten free, no nuts.
