#alphabetphoto project : D is for ... duality

On the way home from our walk to the farm show at the beach, we stopped for a photo in front of this huge anchor. Suddenly Sophie squealed ...

"Look Mum, it's got that racist symbol on it !", she cried. I went to have a look and sure enough, there was a swastika moulded into the metal.

The accompanying sign pointed out this used to be a positive symbol though : "The swastika which can be seen on the right arm would be the trademark of Byers. It used to be a symbol of luck and eternity in different religions until Hitler took it over and gave it a very different meaning." How ironic that the same symbol could epitomise two such very different sets of values.
