Bin Buddy

First of all, I absolutely love the cute packaging which looks like a mini wheelie-bin ! I know it's the product on the inside that counts, not the container it comes in, but it's still great to find packaging that puts a smile on my face every time I use it !

Bin Buddy, as the name and the packaging suggests, is a product to be used in your wheelie bins to keep them smelling fresh. The products comes in two fragrances, Citrus in the green pack, which really reminds me of something but I can't put my finger on (I think it must be lemon/lime-fragranced cleaning products) and Berry Blast in the red pack which smells absolutely 100% like Cherry Panda Pop drinks - remember those ? Wow, talk about a blast from the past !

But the product does more than just mask unpleasant odours. It also repels and kills insects, including flies, wasps, ants, cockroaches and mosquitoes. By neutralising the smells that attract them, it may also help to deter foxes, squirrels, dogs, cats and anything else that likes to get into your wheelie bins.

The product has been specifically designed for outdoor bins but is perfectly safe to use inside the house too and it smells so nice that I've been using it in my kitchen bin so that it also acts as an air-freshener every time someone uses the pedal bin.

My only criticism is that the information on the packaging concerning its impact on the environment is very ambiguous. While it claims to contain "effective natural insecticides which break down harmlessly in the environment", when you turn around the box it has a "dangerous for the environment" warning. ** Update : I queried this and have been told that this is purely down to packaging regulations. The actual powder does contain a natural insecticide which will break down in natural sunlight but as it is an insecticide, they have to meet regulations and also include a warning about potential environmental problems.**

They also warn you that, should you choose to use it inside your home, you should be aware that it contains colourings which may stain if they come into contact with moisture.

If you have pongy bins that attract lots of insects, Bin Buddy will soon become your best buddy too ! I will certainly be stocking up on some for the warmer summer months when the problem gets worse. I also love the fact that the packaging has a sprinkler allowing you to shake out as little or as much as you need each time.
